Producing maps of Canada involves making compromises between accurately representing areas, angles, or distances.
Tissot's indicatrices (blue circles & ellipses on attached maps) inform us visually about map distortions. Distortions in area are indicated by variations across the map in the area enclosed by the Tissot indicatrices. Distortions in angles are indicated by departures from circularity of the Tissot indicatrices.
