The "Download object by ID" dialog in JOSM is very smart. It takes whatever you have on your clipboard, even the full URL (even a dirty one including the /history or = block) and will know exactly how to retrieve the object. Very easy to copy-paste from the browser.
I wish other dialogs would re-use the code, in particular "Revert changeset" or "Undelete object by ID", which have stricter rules about input syntax.
